The journey of wildlife itself is very exciting and full of adventure. Ranthambore National Park is located in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, which used to be a hunting ground for the Maharaja’s of Jaipur before independence.

Ranthambore National Park is famous for its tigers and wildlife safaris. This beautiful place bestowed with ample of flora and fauna that attracts travelers and photographers.  It is a famous tourist gateway which is situated at a distance of 180 kilometre from Jaipur and 370 kilometre from national capital Delhi.

History of Ranthambore National Park

The first king of Ranthambore was named Sajraj Veer Singh Nagil and during his time this place had become quite developed. During the 17th century, the ground of Ranthambore Fort used to be a hunting ground for the Maharaja’s of Jaipur. In 1957 this place was renamed as Wildlife Sanctuary. ‘Project Tiger’ was started in 1974, to protect the royal Benga tiger. In 1981, it was renamed Ranthambore National Park.

Best time to visit Ranthambore National Park

Runthambore National Park is open to the general public from 1st October to 31st June. The forest department gives a safari option for tourists to roam in which about 20 people can sit in canter and jeep accommodates 6 persons. Safari timing during winter is available from 7 to 10:30 in the morning and from 2 to 6 in the evening.  In summer it is available from 06:00 AM to 09:30 AM in the morning and 03:00 PM to 07:00 PM in the evening. Tourists coming to Ranthambore National Park need to make making in advance.

Weather

Winter is cold and summer is hot here. If it is too cold during the winter, it is very important to take sweaters, jackets, mufflers, and in summer, even thinner clothes do not bring relief to the body, so keep sunglasses, hats, water bottles.

Wildlife of Ranthambore National Park

The major attraction of the Ranthambore National Park is Royal Bengal Tiger. Ranthambore is known under the ‘Tiger Conservation Project’ and also has a significant number of tigers. This sanctuary is called “tiger sanctuary” but there is also presence of large number of other wildlife. These include leopard, nilgai, wild boar, sambar, deer, bear and chital etc.  The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of flora, plants, vines, small creatures and birds. India’s largest banyan tree is also a popular destination in Ranthambore. Apart from animals, about 264 species of birds can be seen here. Many migratory birds visit here in winter. Among birds, eagles, crested serpent eagles, great Indian horned owls, pheasants, painted pheasants, quails, sperfile peacocks, tree pies and a variety of storks can be seen. Here beautiful places like Rajbagh Pond, Padam Talab, Milak Talab attract many types of animals and try to hunt them as carnivorous animals. There are also crocodiles in the lakes of this park.

The Ranthambore National Park has taken its name from the famous Ranthambore Fort which is situated within the park. The park is located in the district of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan and at the distance of around 11 km from the Sawai Madhopur railway station. Sawai Madhopur is approx 130 km away from the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur.
