Incidents of Ranthambore National Park that turned Tiger into Man-Eater

News Update : The tiger has once again hit local villagers inside the Ranthambore Tiger National Reserve in Rajasthan. The movements of two tigers have been noticed in Khandar area of buffer zone that has created fright among nearby the villagers including Khurd-Sadulpur.
In fact, many people have lost their lives in Tiger attacks in Rajasthan. Ranthambore National Park has witnessed many such attacks so far. Due to human intervention in the forest, tigers are behaving furious. Let us look back to few incidents that have changed the behavior of territorial Royal Bengal Tigers.

Incident 1; Dated: 08 May 2015 : The Tiger T-24 of Ranthambore National Park killed Forest Guard Rampal Saini on 6 May 2015. Tiger T-24 came into limelight after this incident. Tiger T-24 is called as “Ustad”. Ustad was relocated from Ranthambore National Park after this incident. It is said that T-24 killed two people before attacking guard Rampal. In those incidents it was not confirmed whether the attack was carried out by T-24 or any other wildlife. After Rampal’s death, the T-24 was considered a man-eater.

Incident 2; Dated: 21 August 2018 : In Ranthambore National Tiger Reserve, Tiger attacked a 29-year-old man and seriously injured him.

Incident 3; Dated: 18 December 2018 : Tiger attacked a 65 year old woman and killed her in Ranthambore National Park.

Incident 4; Dated: 02 February 2019 : In the Ranthambore National Tiger Reserve, the tiger attacked the woman returning home from the farm and killed her. 40-year-old Munni Devi, who hails from Padli area, was returning home from the farm, during which the tiger attacked her.

Incident 5; Dated: 11 September 2019 : The body of 20-year-old Pintu was found in the Kailadevi Wildlife Area of Karauli. In the forest, tiger attacked Pintu and killed him. Pintu was working in his field adjacent to the forested area at the time of the incident. On 8th September tiger attacked another villager in the same area.

Incident 6; Dated: 07 October 2019 : In Dangarwara village of Sawai Madhopur, a tiger attacked Neeraj, a 10-year-old boy, and killed him. Neeraj was working in the fields with his mother at the time of the incident.

Incident 7; Dated: July 2018 : In the forests of Udaipur forest range, a panther attacked 2 people in 10 days and killed him. In the jungles of villages of Bara, Patia, Paduna and Chanwada, the panther took 2 people, including a 15-year-old boy, to his prey. Earlier on July 26, 2014, a panther pulled away a sleeping person outside his house in Barwala village and ate one of his legs.

Incident 8; February 2017 : Half a dozen people were injured by a cannibal panther attacking the village around the Sariska sanctuary of Alwar. The cannibal panther killed 3 people. In view of the outrage of the village around Sariska, 2 Panthers were sent to Jaipur zonal.

The Ranthambore National Park has taken its name from the famous Ranthambore Fort which is situated within the park. The park is located in the district of Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan and at the distance of around 11 km from the Sawai Madhopur railway station. Sawai Madhopur is approx 130 km away from the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur.
