Ranthambore News Update – Yes! Good news has come from Rajasthan Ranthambore National Park for wildlife enthusiasts where popular Tigress T-73 gave birth to three new cubs. According to forest officials Tigress T-73 was recently seen with three cubs (aged around four months old). Forest department has installed trap cameras in the non-tourist zone that managed to take the photos of cubs with their mother. This is the second time that the same tigress has given birth inside park. T-73 belongs to famous Machhli’s family. She is the daughter of world fame Machhli’s daughter, Sundari.
According to divisional forest officer, Ranthambore National Park; “This is very good news for tiger lovers and the Tiger population in Ranthambore National Park. We had received this message a few days back there were new cubs seen in the reserve but we could not authenticate it. Few pugmarks were spotted on the safari routes but we were not sure that it is of new cubs. We searched for cameras photos that were captured in last one month clearly showed the tigress along with the cubs.” The forest authorities have arranged all the safety measures in the area where the new cubs were seen. Tigress T-73 belongs to the family of the famous T-17 or Sundari. Prior to this tigress, T-60 was also spotted with a cub in Ranthambore National Park a month back.
According to the recent census data for tiger released, the tiger population in the Rajasthan includes 71 tigers in Ranthambore National Park. The data include both adults and cubs. The population of Tiger in Sariska Tiger Reserve is 16 and 4 is in Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve which also includes both adults and cubs.
The Ranthambore forest officials said that sighting of new cubs in the park after the loss of ST-16 in Sariska on June 8 due to heatstroke. The seven year old ST-16 was also the son of Tigress T-17 and was shifted from Ranthambore in April to maintain the balance of male and female Tiger population in Sariska Tiger Reserve.
