Why Choose Canter Safari?

Jungle safari management in Ranthambore National Park is solely administered by the park authority. Two safari vehicles are allowed — canter and jeep. The canter is a 20-seater open bus providing excellent viewing from a higher vantage point. Canter safari runs in two shifts — morning and afternoon. Twenty canters are allowed per shift, so up to 40 canters enter the park each day.

Canter safari is as comfortable as jeep for wildlife sighting and sometimes even better — you can see farther from a canter than from a jeep. Safari duration and routes inside the park are the same for both vehicles; the main difference is the number of tourists per vehicle and the shared group experience.

Canter Safari Zone Allotment

Ranthambore National Park is divided into 10 zones for tourism so various regions receive equal visitor traffic. Each canter is allotted a particular safari zone per shift and must move only on tracks meant for that zone. The canter cannot change zone or leave its safari track. All zones are rich in flora and fauna, and tiger sighting chances are comparable across zones as each region is a tiger territory.

Ecotourism zone allotment for canter safari is done randomly by a computerized process at park entry. The zone once allotted cannot be changed.

Although 20 canter vehicles are available per shift, visitor numbers are so high that getting a seat on the spot is difficult.   • Follow your guide and driver instructions at all times.
  • Stay seated in the canter unless instructed otherwise.
  • Maintain silence when near wildlife for better sightings.

  • Do not stand up or lean out of the open canter.
  • Do not feed, provoke or chase any wild animal.
